Another theory on the identity of John Hurt; if he is in fact the true 9th Doctor, that would place him after the 1996 movie special and before the 2005 series revival, which is when the Time War occurs. I believe he may be the Doctor who fought during the Time War, which would explain Eleven’s hostile treatment of Hurt; the Time War is his biggest regret.
